Antique Set (3 pieces) White Lava Cameos ca. 1875 Never mounted, Large brooch size with two smaller carvings (ear rings) All original, never cleaned or polished Very High relief - Beautiful carvings Sizes: Brooch is 1½" x 1 7/8" x 5/8" (high) Earrings are 9/16" x 13/16" When Vesuvius erupted in 1872, the cameo carvers of Naples found a new material for their art. The cameos created in this 'golden age' were primarily lava shades of grays and browns. Black and White lava cameos were the rarest then and consequently, seldom found today. These examples are very collectible. This jewelry is not being sold on approval, so please read the description and pay special attention to our photos - they are considered part of our description - PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU BID... CONDITION: VERY FINE Vintage Condition: No detectible damage to any of the pieces, visibly or by touch. A very faint line of carmel colored lava runs across the brooch's bodice...adds a nice vintage look to the piece. So faint, it doesn't show in the photos.
