Here is a very old chain stitch sewing machine made to the Willcox and Gibbs principle, part of my machine collection. It is virtually identical to the Willcox and Gibbs but cannot be called that owing to the fact that this one does't have the brass trade badge on the casting base. After a good deal of searching I came across this identical machine on the very good website http://www./Willcox%20and%20Gibbs%20Principle.htm This site gives a lot of interesting information not available elsewhere as far as I know. The base measures 32 cms x 20 and stands 26 cms high approx. It is all in pretty good condition for its age; the base is solid with no cracks and the gold decoration on the machine is still mainly bright and pretty, only missing on part of the upper front and back arms where people have picked up the machine over the years . The japanning itself is a little worn in these areas (please study the pics well) The leather flywheel belt has been recently renewed and is good and strong. The bright metal parts show wear in parts (not rust, see pics). It has a stitch length adjuster and the wording "American Sewing Machine..........London". It is very quiet and smooth in use. This machine sews well! I have tried to show both the front and back sides of the piece of cloth in the picture. I have used it for sewing until fairly recently read more
