up for auction:AN ANTIQUE WILLIAM L. GILBERT CLOCK CO. BLACKBIRD MODEL MANTLE CLOCK Manufacture date estimated to be at least APRIL 28, 1896 (according to stamp on pendulum arm -- see photo -- although I understand it may be older if this piece of the clockworks had been replaced) Additionally, a card affixed to the back from "Chas. H. Morris, Jeweler and Optician" in Dallas, Oregon, indicates that this clock was cleaned on "Oct 11, 1916" (see photos) The bottom label states "Blackbird. Manufactured by Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co, Winsted, Conn., U.S.A." (see photo) The finish is primarily a dark marbelized brown/carmel with gilted (I believe brass) ornaments, footings, etc (see photos) Dimensions: Height = approx 11 inches Width (at widest - base) = approx 16 1/2 inches Depth (at deepest - base) = approx 7 1/2 inches Dial diameter = approx 5 1/2 inches Weight = approx 10 pounds It appears to be in pretty good shape -- could use a good detailing -- all the parts seem to be in place (including key and pendulum as shown)... The hourly gong chimes and the half-hour bell dings as appropriate... However, I cannot seem to keep it running for more than a couple minutes -- perhaps it needs some adjustment, cleaning, or minor repair... There are scuffs on the sides and top, which are probably not beyond repair... We have inherited this piece from our Grandparents, who ran an antique shop "back in the day" -- however, we are by no means antique or clock experts... Please email any questions... Thanks for looking -- good luck and God bless!
