What a wonderful early example of victorian twisted wire ware plus what a unique piece. You just don't see these that often. The main body of holder is made from one continuous wire from the bottom, up the side including arms, around the fancy top, down the other side including arms to the bottom. The bottom cross wire is attached and the twisted wire X's on back are separate and also attached. A separate short wire is wrapped around each arm ( which are double wired ) to keep the double wire from separating. Talk about detail to quality and workmanship. Used in the 1800"s to hold letters, periodicals, newspaper's (which came rolled in a paper sleeve). Could be used for the same purpose today! Or would be darling in the bathroom with rolled towels or in the kitchen with rolling pins or all sorts of kitchen collectibles. So many possibilities with this very unique piece. Notice the wonderful dark patina of the wire that only age gives. 15 1/2 " tall by 5 1/2 " wide. Depth 4 " at deepest. Inside arm depth 2 3/4 ". Arms curved up at end approx. a little over 1 1/4 ". Approx. 3 3/4 " between pairs of arms top to bottom. All measurements may vary slightly on arms as this was a totally handmade wire piece. What an awesome addition to a serious wire ware or primitive collectors home. You will love it! I will contact you soon after auction read more
