This is a very old and unusual wooden container. It was used as an old button box and came from an old Colonial home. The bird design on the top seems like inlaid brass instead of metallic paint as t are no chips to the paint and it is slightly dimensional. The box stands 5" tall and 6" in diameter. The bowl and top also appear to be handcrafted from a single piece of wood. The base is cracked down one side, through to the interior, probably from age and dryness, but it remains intact. Glossy dark painted interior. Lots of scratches and wear as shown in the photos. No maker marks or dates. Pervious owner was a world traveler so this may have come from almost anyw Slightly rounded bottom keeps this from sitting perfectly flat. Definitely handcrafted and one of a kind. Sold as shown.
