Antique wooden Slope Writing box with Brass Inlays and Secret CompartmentI believe this is made of Walnut and from the early 1800s, but I am not certain. There is some writing on the inside panel that seems to indicate that this box was used by a man named Fisher who was a Sea captain in 1800. I don't know who wrote this or when, nor am I implying it is fact, but it is certainly interesting and worth mentioning. Have a look at the picture, but I believe the text is as follows "From Grandpa Fisher an old sea capt. Husband of Grandma Fisher - Used by him in 1800."It is in overall good condition for its age. This is no key and some of the brass inlay pieces are missing: Two corner pieces on the front, and the two long bars on the lid at the rear, and the two on the left. It is also missing some veneer in multiple locations. The lower writing panel has separated at felt hinge. There are light impressions/scratches throughout the outside of the case. There is one antique ink wells without a lid. The secret compartment door works as it should. There are pull-out brass handles at either side that are intact and work as they should.Measures 20" W x 10" D x 6.5"HShips to the US lower 48 states.
