Here is a nice example of a medium sized, travelling pillar type microscope dating from the early twentieth century. The microscope has a heavy black painted cast iron base, making it a heavier duty instrument than the more usually seen drum type microscopes. No doubt this would originally have had a fitted wooden case, now no longer present. The microscope is made from brass with a lacquered finish, which now has some light wear and tarnish, giving a characterful appearance. The base is of iron with a black painted finish. There is one screw missing from the reverse of the wheel mechanism (shown in second photograph), which makes this section move slightly if wobbled, but works very well and is not loose on the tube. The mirror has some very light spotting and wear, but is still in working condition. There is some light dust to the eyepiece lens and a little light rust to the stage and clips. There is no maker’s mark that I can see. All in all it's a great little item, which forms an interesting read more
