This is an antique woven rawhide leather headstall with two rosettes. The rosettes appear to have a handpainted rose with a glass cap set in a circular metal piece. The bridle came from my mother-in-law's family ranch in northern California, near Fort Jones. She (age 92) puts a date of 1900 or earlier on the bridle. I do not know horse tack at all; so, I have tried to include a number of pictures. One of the loops that hold the bit is badly worn (see picture of good one and worn one). The cheek piece, from the rosette to the loop that holds the bit is 13" long. The throatlatch is about 19" long. What I think is called the browband is about 13" long and has one piece of leather that has separated (see picture #5). Overall, I think the headstall is a handsome piece of Americana history. Please e-mail any concerns or questions you have before bidding. If you are not completely satisfied I will happily refund your purchase price. RETURN shipping is the BUYER'S responsibility.
