Up for auction here is a vintage, late 1930s antique painting by listed Chicago / Oregon WPA artist Ann Michalov (1904-2001 American Artist) The subject matter of this painting is a Panoramic WPA style Landscape. The work is a watercolor and thickly painted gouache on paper. It is being sold framed. The size of the painting only is about 14 1/4 inches high by 19 1/2 inches across and with the frame 21 1/2 inches by 27 1/2 inches. The painting is signed by the artist in the bottom center and dated 38 for 1938. For condition. There is some very , very old water stain on the back of the painting that has soaked through to the front of the mat and you can see some of the faint water stain on the mat along the far right edge extending about 1 inch up to about 1 1/2 inches from the edge of the frame. The paper does not lay flat inside the mat, the paper is a bit wavy. There is a small spot in the top center where the gouache has chipped or flaked slightly but not too bad. The painting will need a new mat and backer. Ann Michalov is listed in many published art books including the US Government's publication WPA Artwork in Non-Federal Repositories Edition II, the Illinois State Art Museums book New Deal Art in Illinois, an Exhibition at the Illinois State Art Museum, the 1939 book by Thomas Parker "Frontiers of American Art", Works Progress
