This antique wooden model of a WW 1 GERMAN FIGHTER BI-PLANE is not a replica. The wooden plane was handmade and is old. I purchased four of these antique models in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and I believe that they date from WW1 era. The body of the plane is handcarved from a solid block of wood that I believe is pine and has one seat directly behind the upper wing. The only metal on the plane is in the wires that connect the wings. This is a bi-plane with two sets of wings. The plane measures about 12 1/2" from tip of the tail to the end of the nose. The upper wing span is 17 1/2" at the bottom of the wing w it is widest. The bottom wing span is the same, but t are two separate wings on the bottom that are attached to the body. T are two wooden wheels that are 1 1/4" in diameter. T is a gun mechanism mounted on the top of the plane that is also wood. The plane shows great detail, such as the scalloped wings, wires between the wings, grooves on the upper wings and a propeller that turns. The underside is painted green and the upper part is a dark brown with some green camouflage. T are six crosses painted in black; two on either side of the body, two on the top of the upper wing and two on the underside of the lower wings.
