Very important piece of YELLOW WARE that is in need of repair. I decided to list it as I have seen wonderful things done with professional repair and this piece is worthy of it. It has the look of majolica and appears to be the head of a black boy in a wooden barrel? The design around the base is a chain and a masculine head with grapes on top, Bacchus perhaps? The lid has been poorly re-glued but the pieces are all t The head is intact. The base has a number of small rim chips but no cracks or hairlines that I can find. One can tell it is yellow ware as the chips reveal that fact. The colors are great in greens and rusty reddish hues over the yellow. This must have been a much treasured piece to have been carefully pieced together again and put back on the shelf. Overall measurements are approx. 6 & 1/2" tall x 4 & 1/2" across. It is marked on the bottom: O&L 17. Will be well padded and packed. It looks like this is from the mid 1800's or possibly earlier as I saw some similar pieces of yellow ware in a price guide but this design wasn't listed.
