3 ANTQ Gas Oil Lamp Fixture Pressed Glass Shades 4" flowers garlands #C This sale is for a matched set of three (3) Pressed Gas Glass Shades, see picts. This sale is for three shades, but I have several more in this pattern. These shades were purchased last year from the new owner of a very old home. The owner told me that they found these stored in boxes in the attic. I have included a picture of one of the pieces of newspaper, used to pack the globes. The mice destroyed most of the paper, but this one headline pictured very well, dating 1945. Most of these shades are believed to date way before that, but they were not removed from the home until the original owners could afford electricity. This is the last group of shades that I have to sell from this estate, but it was also the largest group that matched. I did not know how to sell them, as there are 9 to 10 of each size, too many to sell in one group. I have two other groups for sale in my store, one a matched pair 1 electric and 1 gas shade and a group of four (4) electric shades. I believe that these gas shades were used during a transitional period when electric fixtures were replacing gas. I will count on collectors and restorers of antique fixtures to be able to identify these pieces and the era they date to. The pressed glass pattern used on these three shades have a 'toothed' tiny scalloped edging, see picts. The gas shade has 8 sides or sections, separated by a clear rib of glass, see picts. Each of these 8 panels are decorated with two simple garlands meeting in the middle, joined by a 6 petaled flower, see picts. The pattern is clear glass, with the background a molded textured design, see picts. The molded design is on the outside, not the inside of the glass, see picts. The gas shade is approx. 4 inches tall, with a diameter of approx. 7 7/8 inches from the two furthest points, on the larger bottom end, see picts. The diameter at the top of the shade, which will mount into a gas fixture is approx. 4 inches to the outside, interior diameter of approx. 3 1/4 inches. I am guessing that these shades date to the early 1900's but definitely earlier then the date on the newspapers, or pre 1945, based on the newspaper they were wrapped in. I have a close-up of one of the scallops to show the minor damage/flaw found on this scallop, see picts. The outside does not show the damage well, not a chip but more of a hairline, more visible from the inside of the shade, see picts. There is the minimal wear on the mounting edge of the fixtures as you would expect, but no other damage found on the three shades. These imperfections testify to the age of the pieces. I could find no other significant hairlines, cracks or chips. These will be shipped, nested together with bubble wrap seperating each piece. They will then have bubble wrap around the pair.
