This is a great 18th C. Cinnabar lacquer box. Well carved with attendants and man fish . Landscape, geometric designs on sides. Very similar box can be seen in Christies South Kensington ., Chinese Ceramics, Works of Art July 15, 2005 catalog. estimated at $1100.00-$1500.00. This box has an iron (?) body around which the lacquer is painted, metal bodied boxes can be seen in 18th C. examples like the lot #1569 in Christies Hong Kong Fine Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art, May 29th 2007 catalog.*Please click "Reload/Refresh" button if pics do not load.
