Starting with a heat treated file or a heat treated former industrial saw blade, master craftsman Charlie Davis from California creates these durable and traditional knives. For those of you unfamiliar with Charlie Davis , he was a senior staff member of Buck Knives until the mid 1980's when he formed Anza Knives . No two Anza Knives are ever exactly alike, and models he manufactures are eagerly sought by hunters and collectors. Note that these are full tang and extremely strong . File ridges are left on as a tradition of manufacturing by Anza , and all knives are marked with the year of manufacture ANZA KNIVES and USA . Noted outdoors hunter, shooter and safari expert Craig Boddington has purchased numerous Anza Knives and has also written about his admiration for Charlie Davis and ANZA KNIVES in his internationally published column's. Direct from Charlie Davis : "The Anza Knives Story Built for the Collector, Priced for the Sportsman. Since I started in 1980, Anza has been committed to providing top handmade affordable knives for the sportsman and collector. I choose to make my knives from files because a file is an excellent source of high carbon tool steel. I remove the brittleness normally found in a file. The knives are then hand ground to shape, a handle, commonly known as Dymondwood is then added, and final finishing, polishing and sharpening are then completed. The final result is a beautifully made knife that will both hold an edge and sharpen easily. My knives are so sharp and hold an edge so well, they have become a favorite among guides and outfitters, hunters, backpackers, and fishermen. Each band of color you see is a separate piece of Dymondwood or brass that flanks the Stag. Painstakingly assembled and polished...this is quite a work of superb craftsmanship! Year Made: 2005 Notes: Throughout the years I have obtained various daggers from Anza Knives, and they have all found happy recipients all around the world. With that said, if this type of knife is not permitted w you live, then please let it pass by. Also, although this does come with a sheath, it does not have a "practical" use, and is intended to simply afford some protection to the knife. As you may know, a dagger is as complex as making 4 knives as the left/right and front/back have to be symmetrical. I had the mirror image dagger to this one that found a great home in Great Britain a few years ago from its' exposure on eBay . Stag handles, especially with the shaping required for a dagger, really boosts the cost (and value!), as t is a lot of time and patience required in doing the shaping of the delicate curves.
