Apollo 8 Crew-Signed Stamp First Day of Issue Ceremony Program, also Signed by Robert Gilruth and Others. A four page folded program, 6" x 9", titled on the front cover beneath the NASA Apollo insignia: "Apollo 8/ Commemorative Stamp/ First Day of Issue Ceremony/ 12:00 Noon Rice Hotel/ May 5, 1969 Houston, Texas". The back cover features the first chapter of Genesis from the Bible as was read to the world during a Christmas Eve broadcast from lunar orbit. The left inside page gives the luncheon program with the signatures of U.S. Senator from Texas "Ralph W. Yarborough" (1903-1996) and U.S. Postmaster General "Winton M Blount" (1921-2002), each above their name. The right inside page features the story of the mission and the stamp's creation beneath a first day cancellation of the striking "Apollo 8" stamp (Scott #1371). Around and across the cancellation are the signatures of the crew, "To/ Harry/ Bill Anders", "Frank Borman", and "James Lovell", along with NASA's Manned Spacecraft Center Director "Robert R Gilruth" (1913-2000). A fine and uncommon souvenir of man's first flight to the moon and the stamp created to honor that achievement. Excellent condition save for two small tape stains on the outside and a bit of fading or lightness to the Lovell signature. Grade: 0, Service No.: 0
