Flown Foils Are From the Jerald B. Wilken Space Collection, Limited Edition of 10. APOLLO 8 Three Piece Foil Display Includes: Flown Kapton Foil 1/4"x 1" Flown Thermal Foil 1/4"x 1" Flown Thermal Foil Tape 1/4"x 1" - Approximitely from Command Module CM/103 the first manned spacecraft to orbit the moon in custom acrylic display 4" X 6" X 11/16" Thick. Kapton Foil: Pressure sensitive Kapton polyimide tape coated with aluminum and oxidized silicon monoxide covered the ablative heat shield of the APOLLO 9 Command Module and helped keep the crew safe from Thermal Radiation. Thermal Shielding Foil: This aluminum foil, was adhered with Dow Corning RTV 560 and was externally applied to the Crew compartment between the Aft heat shield, Forward and Main sub structures to provide thermal protection to the crew compartment and heat or cold sensitive components. This piece of foil came from the AFT compartment. Thermal Foil Tape: Was used for thermal shielding of sensitive system components of the Command Module. This sample has RTV 511 Silicon on the edge and a strip of oxidized foil.
