This is a Covered Butter Dish... in one of my favorite glass colors... Aqua Blue Opalescent... and favorite patterns... the "Eye Winker"!!!... This beauty stands about 4 and 3/4 inches tall with the Cover... or Top on. The Butter Dish itself is 1 ½ inches tall... to the top of its hand crimped "Pie Crust" style rim... and 7 ½ inches across. Both the Cover and the Dish appear to be in excellent condition. A generous frosting of Opalescence blushes the outer rim of this stunning Butter Dish. As we leave this outer rim the Opalescence dissipates to reveal an almost "crystal" like Aqua Blue color that is the body glass of this piece. As for the Cover... The handle of the Cover also has just a light "blush" of Opalescence... and again that " Crystal " like Aqua Blue body glass... then with another "kiss" of Opalescence as we reach the bottom edge. I see an "M" in a shield... shaped like the state of Ohio ... right in the center of the bottom of the Dish. This is the mark of the Mosser Glass Company. But I believe this old "Eye Winker" pattern was originated by the L. G. Wright Glass Company. So we'll assume that L. G. Wright introduced the pattern... but Mosser Glass at some point acquired the molds... and produced this stunning... Aqua Blue Opalescent... Covered Butter Dish. As I mentioned... this Aqua Blue Opalescent Glass has long been one of my favorite's glass colors. We had a bunch of glass collectors in our family... and my Mom would often take me along to visit her sister... my aunt Dorothy. She was a ritzy ol' gal... and had a nice collection... which included many pieces in this color. As a young boy... that some sixty odd years ago... I was always impressed with this... always proper lady... her very correct mannerism... her lifestyle... and of course her glass collection. It's funny how such insignificant encounters as a child... manifest themselves in us as we grow older... and make us crave... the elusive treasures of yesterday. My aunt Dot is long gone now... as is my Mom. But even to this day... I can still see her and Mom admiring... and discussing... the different pieces in their collections. This beautiful Butter Dish seems to roll back the years for me... and evokes pleasant memories of my Mom and Aunt Dot... enthralled with their pieces of Aqua Blue glassware... with it's "ocean blue" body glass... and seemingly magical... and mysterious blush... of Opalescent frosting!!!... W have the years gone???... This is April 18th as I sit and write this description... and tomorrow I'll be 70 years old. My oh my... how the "pages of time" have sped by... leaving me now on the "last chapter"... in the "story book of life"!!!... This color of glass has always been a "bugger" to photograph... even though our gal Patty does a super job in that department. I can assure you... the "in hand" piece will be much nicer than our photos will ever show...
