ARABIA KALEVALA ANNUAL PLATE 1981 *LIMITED EDITION* This is the 6th in the series of 24 wallplates designed by Raija Uosikkinen for Arabia of Finland to commemorate the Kalevala legend, the national epic of Finland. Each of the plates depicts a part of the story which is written on the back in Finnish, Swedish and English: 1981 V äinämöinen sinks Joukahainen As he sang, sank Joukahainen Waist-deep in the swamp beneath him, Hip-deep in the marshy meadow, To his arm-pits in the quicksand. In addition, on the back is the Arabia Finland crown logo, the signature of Raija Uosikkinen and a small metal hanger attached to the rim. The plate measures 7-7/8" (20cm) square and in excellent vintage condition, with no chips, cracks or other damage. This week I am listing several of these plates for some of the years that are more difficult to locate, giving buyers an opportunity to find some special gifts or fill out more of their collections.
