This fantasic carving is a neolithic culture totem of a dragon like beast with a phoenix like bird on its head. T are many similarities between this carving and those of the Hongshan Culture, 3500 - 2200 BC, but when I bought these pieces from a dealer ten years ago, he said they were Dawenkou Culture, 4500 - 2500 BC. The distintion is subtle but it is t The carving style is a bit more primative tha most Hongshan carvings. Also about eight years ago I saw a couple pieces like this for sale. The seller claimed they were similar to Hongshan but carved by another culture of that time frame. Another interesting item I can share is that an antiquities dealer in New York listed one very similar to this one as being Meso-American pre Columbian. When I mentioned that I had one and sent them a picture, they withdrew t item from their listings. This carving may not be jade (nephrite) in the strictest terms, as many related materials were carved by early cultures and called Yu which translates to jade but actually means pretty stone. This carving is in excellent condition and is about7 inches tall.
