This specimen is from the Chinle formation in northeastern Arizona, an area famous for its varied and brilliantly colored petrified wood. It dates back to the Triassic era and is of the extinct species of tree, araucarioxylon Arizonicum. The different colors are due to the different minerals present during the petrification process. It was photographed both wet and dry in natural light. Photos 1 & 2 are a side by side comparison of the wet/dry photos. It weighs about 34 lb. 11 oz. and measures about 10 high x 8 x 7". It has become pretty hard to find specimens like this. It is very solid, and should cut and polish, barring hidden flaws that could exist. It is an excellent round with 2 knots, so would be a beautiful piece to contour or to add to your home or garden decor. It has bright, clear interior color with delicate, lacey picture line designs at the border. Enjoy!!I am happy to combine items to save you money on shipping, should you win more than one auction.
