Up for your consideration for 5 DAYS ONLY is what I believe is a quite Rare color tinted Tintype of a Civil War Zouave (I believe one of Duryee's) Soldier armed with Nice Long Rifle (possible Springfield) with Bayonet,Sword, and behind the rifle is either a cap box or holster and he has a large ring on his middle finger. Now as you know, tintypes were actually laterally reversed images, in the last 2 images using one of my photo programs, I reversed the image, so you actually can see the numbers on his hat and he was a lefty.I just purchased this yesterday from a woman who says " It was probably her great grandfather and the last name was possibly Whittaker".Size is approx 2 3/4" X 3 1/8" and it appears as though it may have been in a hard case with the shaped copper frame by looking at the ink shape on the image. Now from the short research I have done, I believe this Zouave soldier was from the 56th Infantry- Company A from the 10th legion out of Newburg NY, this is all based on the hat insignia and that this tintype was purchased in upstate NY.Possibly also part of the 5th New York Duryee's Zouaves. is some info I found on the 56th- 56th Infantry Regiment Civil War Tenth Legion; Orange and Sullivan Regiment.
