Auction Description: Armor Bronze . It is my pleasure to offer to this on line community this very difficult to obtain pair of bookends from Armor Bronze Co. named "CHERUB READING". Made in the early 1914's, this bronze clad set is not only one of the finer but also one of the rarer seen sets made by Armor Bronze of Taunton , Massachusetts . I personally have owned this set only twice and have never seen a matched pair in perfect condition. Although, this set will come as close to perfect as one will more than likely see soon. This set has one tiny wrinkle in the cladding on the right rear corner of one and another on the top of the rock on the back side also, and is barely noticeable and must have been done early in its life for the patina has aged over the slight flattened areas. Since the clad bookends are so susceptible to crushing, bending, splitting, and separation of clad areas it is hard to find an original that one would consider really extra nice. Nearly all polychrome finished pairs have nearly all of the finish missing leaving them ranked low collector grade. This set depicts a young boy or cherub seated and buttocks on his right leg and his left leg propped up on his foot holding a large open book. His right arm and hand on the ground balancing him as he concentrates on reading the book. He has long flowing over the ears hair while his left arm is extended with his fingers wound in his locks. He appears to be slightly leaning against a rocky ledge and has more than likely slipped away from his home to have complete solitude while indulging in his appetite for knowledge. The pictures pretty much speaks for themselves!!! This 1914 set designed by S. MORANI and clearing marked as such and manufactured by the Armor Bronze / National Metalizing Co. This set is only another great example of their great works of useful art. These are very large bookends at 6 inches high and are of a proper weight to hold up a full edition of books. BRONZE CLADDING PROCESS DESCRIPTION They are from the 1920s and made the way only Armor Bronze, Marion Bronze, Pompeian and Galvano Bronze made bookends back in those art deco days. Elaborate plaster molds were dipped into a galvanized bronzing solution by means of long metal wicks in the bases. When bronze clad, the wicks were cut off, leaving the telltale remnants in a circular small depression in the base. They were then coldpainted with the finish. This was such an expensive method that they have yet to be reproduced today. Because they are fully figural or three dimensional, they can be displayed nicely in many positions. Please look at the actual photos below to see what is being offered. I take clear and precise pictures and do not computer enhance them with special effects, texture softening, or color alterations to make my items difficult to tell what is being auctioned. The pictures show nearly the exact colors of this set. These will be ideal for the Collector and Bookend Enthusiasts whom are seeking the very finest of Armor Bronze, bronze clad. items. This set is listed and rated by LOUIS KURITZKY in his Collector's Encyclopedia of Bookends. Please feel free to email with questions, inquiries, or any additional information. I will professionally pack this item and will promptly ship via USPS. These have been priced at a Buy it Now Price with the option to make offers. Keep in mind these are one of the rarer and adoring of ARMOR sets and more than likely will not be seen again in this fabulous state.T IS A BELOW VALUE RESERVE ON THIS PAIR Buy it now buyers are required to pay immediately upon receiving a Buyers Purchase Notice.
