US ARMY MAJOR GENERAL DAVID W.GRAY’S 1940s PERSONAL WEST POINT U.S. ACADEMY PHOTOS (27) SHREDDED SECRET OPERATION NORTHWOODS CUBAN EMBARGO DOCS (see below) This photo album is an example of military items we’ve acquired from the estate of a former World War II Major General, David W. Gray , who graduated from West Point in 1933. To lend provenance to this collection, we’re happy to include a photo copy of General Gray’s Distinguished Service Medal certificate which was part of the acquisition. General David W. Gray boasts an incredible military resumé and has the distinction of having been ordered by U.S. Army General Lyman Louis Lemnitzer* to destroy all his notes concerning the secret and illegal ‘ Operation Northwoods ’ — an incredibly interesting political and military story briefly summarized below. As for the merchandise in our listing, we’re offering twenty-seven (27) black and white photographs that were the personal property of General Gray as they were part of an album of his West Point ‘Plebe’ years that we recently sold. The photographs are mostly 8x10s and are two-hole punch. This 1929-1930 photographical content provides a very impressive view of a very impressive West Point U.S. Military Academy campus. Included are mostly horizontal (landscape) shots which show a variety of campus buildings, all of which are certainly historic landmarks, vintage cars, uniformed cadets as well as interiors of the buildings — one with an astounding number of cadets gathered in a hall and a couple with cannons. We’re offering this complete personal West Point U.S. Military Academy collection of 27 photographs in at least very good, if not excellent condition. The only issue we see with them are the two hole punches. Our photographs were taken as the sun was setting and you will see some reflections – please ignore them – these photos are fabulous! And our own pics don’t do them justice! And here’s background on General Gray’s outstanding career including information about Operations Norwoods where General Gray was ordered to shred documents related to the Cuban Missile Crisis. * General Lyman L. Lemnitzer is the former Chief of Staff, U.S. Army , Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Supreme Allied Commander, NATO . Operation Northwoods was a proposed 1962 plan approved by General Lemnitzer to discredit the Castro regime and create support for military action against Cuba by staging ‘false flag’ acts of terrorism in the Miami area, other Florida cities and even Washington. General Lemnitzer so hated Communism, and particularly Fidel Castro, that one idea seriously considered involved purposely destroying John Glenn’s capsule during his ‘First Orbit Around the Earth’ launch in 1962. This was United States vs. United States in order to antagonize a start to a war with Cuba. It was President Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy who insisted all anti-Castro efforts be dropped. Shortly after the Bay of Pigs debacle, an exasperated General Lemnitzer ordered General Gray to destroy all his notes concerning the Joint Chiefs actions and discussions during that period.
