One of the most important pieces of field gear for doughboys in WW1 was the canteen, which provided drinking water in the trenches "over there". This US Army USMC Marine WW1 EARLY FLAT CAP + METAL NECK RING M-1910 ALUMINUM CANTEEN is in good condition, having been cleaned and polished at some point in the past, and with some denting at the upper front, some nicking and scratching at the lower front, a small indent at the upper right back, some scratching along the back, a small spot dent at the right bottom, a spot of darkening to the front metal neck ring, some cracking to the cork stopper at the underside of the cap, and with some scattered age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the canteen is in fine shape, with no other damage. Most interestingly, it boasts the early "flat top" scored aluminum cap secured by a metal ring around the neck, and is unmarked as to its maker or date. A fine example of a rare, original US Army USMC Marine WW1 EARLY FLAT CAP + METAL NECK RING M-1910 ALUMINUM CANTEEN. No cup or cover included.
