The US Army introduced the M-3 trench knife in 1943 for troopers carrying an arm not configured to accept a bayonet. The use of Thompsons and Carbines by paratroopers meant that the M-3 was issued in large numbers to these elite airborne troops. They often wore the M-3 strapped to the calf in an M-6 leather scabbard, which quickly became part of the paratrooper mystique, and a symbol of those "devils in baggy pants". This US Army WW2 D-DAY PARATROOPER AIRBORNE TRENCH KNIFE M-6 LEATHER SCABBARD is in very good condition, with some scratching to the front body, a spot of darkening at the front throat, some lines of scratching and a small nick in the lower front belt hanger, some darkening to the upper front belt hanger, the upper back belt hanger, and the middle/upper back, an old surplus store price of "1 98" hand marked and underlined at the upper back, and with some scattered age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the scabbard is in fine shape, with absolutely no rips, holes, tears, or other damage to the tough brown leather construction.
