The US Army saw the success of German paratroopers in 1940, and quickly set about creating its own elite airborne units. US paratroopers jumped on Sicily in Operation Husky in 1943, and dropped into Normandy during the D-Day invasion in 1944. As those "devils in baggy pants" approached their drop zones, the jumpmaster would order his men to "stand up!" and "hook up!" their static lines to the anchor cable in the aircraft, ensuring they would jump under deployed canopies. This US Army WW2 PARATROOPER AIRBORNE T-5 PARACHUTE STATIC LINE HOOK is in very good condition, with only some scattered patina and age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the hook is in fine shape, with absolutely no cracking or other damage to the tough metal construction. Most interestingly, it carries a small encircled "A" directly molded into the lower left front, and is a fine example of a rare, original US Army WW2 PARATROOPER AIRBORNE T-5 PARACHUTE STATIC LINE HOOK.
