Art Deco br.medal by R. Tschudin, ca.1938 : Praying in Paris (starting price: USD $29.99 NO RESERVE) Obv/ A young Lady (Sainte Genevieve) on her knee and praying while her sheep are in the fields, peacefully. In the background: the Walls of Paris in medieval time. Rev/ Plain (with a late engraved inscription : Cours St-Louis 1921) Information and bibliography: This lovely Bronze medal was engraved by a contemporary artits : Raymond Tschudin (1916-1998) . He studied at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts in Paris and in Drpsy’s Art Shop. He engraved many medals as well for private organisations than for the different French mints. He won the "Grand Prize of Rome" in 1945 as a medallist. A bit more about this medal : it is one of the first medals Tschudin engraved, just before WW II. It is at the crossroad between Art Deco and Contemporary Art, full of lightness and modernism This medal is remembering Sainte Genevieve protecting Paris with her prayers during the invasion in the early Middle Age. Comment : A touch of Modern Art as well as a strong Art Deco way of doing..and..it makes a GREAT PIECE of ART WORK ! This high relief and touching bronze medal is in a BEAUTIFUL CONDITION , with a light chocolate patina.There is not any mark or inscription on the edge.
