A great find from a great U.S. theatrical and industrial designer, Norman Bel Geddes (1893 - 1958). He was the first person to seriously apply aerodynamics and streamline living into his industrial design. The Cobra Lamp , made by the Faires Manufacturing Company in Decatur , IL has combined his elements of style very nicely. In researching this lamp, Architonic website last year had this exact lamp estimated at $2000 - $3000. Norman Bel Geddes 'futuram a' ideas are remembered in this rare and unique Cobra Lamp piece. It is painted brown on metal. The interior of the shade is painted white with light bulb cover. The sticker on the shade is a bit worn, but still says 'Faires' on the backside as seen in the picture. Other accents that compliment the lamp are the brass deco ball placed in the middle of the base. The push button on/ off switch is original. It is perfectly aligned with the center of the lamp if looking straight on. The height of the lamp measures 12 1/8" (31 cm). The base of the lamp measures 8 '' in diameter and the top shade portion measures 11''. This lamp is in fair to good condition for it's age and works very well as seen in the photos. T are some scratches and an aged patina on the lamps finish from usage. A very, small slight dent on rim with the white underside (in picture) blemished. The ' corwico ' brand read more
