A uction D escription Up for your consideration is yet another pair of Bookends straight from the Deco Era. This is a Jennings Brothers Pair from the year 1930 and is a true and accurate depiction of the handsome and well-proportioned Alsatian Breed. These dogs possess sturdy, muscular, and slightly elongated bodies, wide-based, upright ears, ruffled, furry chests and the very distinctive muzzles. The masculine canines sit attentively with their mouths open and their tongues hanging out, as if waiting patiently for their next command. One will find that this is indeed a splendid pair with no faults to mention. Both are exceptional pieces that could adorn any shelf or mantle quite well. It is also very nice to see this pair not in the usual full metal casting, but with pale grey and mint Arabescato Cervaiole marble bases ! The Shepherds are made of a pot metal with a dark, gilded brass finish that has aged to look like bronze. As an additional note, the dogs are even anatomically correct. Without a doubt, these are truly impressive pieces! The alert police dogs stand at 5 ¾" Tall, 2" Wide, and 4 ½" Long, and the pair weighs 3 lbs. You can find these listed in Kuritzky's Bookend Reference Guide, The Collector's Encyclopedia of Bookends. T, they are described as rare, valued accordingly, and identified as production number 2417. read more
