Two sets of Norman Bel Geddes "Manhattan" candlesticks, designed for the Revere C oppe r and Brass Company, manufactured in the 1930's, and one original Revere C omp any box. Bel Geddes was one of the most inf luent ial American designers of the 20th C entury. He opened an industrial-design studio in 1927, and designed and produced a wide range of commercial products. He is one of the visionaries credited with popularizing the "streamlined look" that defined and characterized the 1930's. Bel Geddes designed the General Motors Pavilion, known as Futurama, for the 1939 New York World's Fair. His "step-down " or p yramid design was the the inspiration fo r Anchor Hocking's enormously popular "Manhattan" line of Depression glass, produced in 1938-9. A single candlestick matching these is in the permanent collection of the Brooklyn Museum.Both sets of candlesticks are in good condition. One set has a slight scratching on two sides, which is not noticeable in most light. (see photos). The felt on one set is excellent, on the other it is slightly more worn, but intact. The second set has a slight ding on one side of one of the pieces. (again, see photos).Each candlestick measures 1 1/2" in height, and is 3 1/4 inches square.These are hard to come by, and prized by fans of the 1930's.
