Wonderful Art Deco....Cast Iron is a wonderful Art Deco piece....that has just come from a Texas Estate. If you are into Art Deco....Decorative Iron....or the Arts & Crafts scene....you will surely love this one. What a wonderful addition for the Cottage or Bungalow. I am not quite sure what the piece was intended for....but my guess would be a smoking stand or an ashtray of some sort. My second guess would be a Fish Bowl stand. The piece was made by W H Howell of Geneva, Illinois....sometime before 1938. I believe that they moved their location after that date. The company made standing ashtrays and decorative furniture....so I guess the piece could have been.... any of the above. The stand is made from cast iron....with lots and lots of detail to all sides. The vertical members are covered with the "Deco" artwork which is set on a hammered style background. As you move to the interior or the back side of the same piece....the finish changes to that of a woodgrain or tree bark. The perimeter of the top piece has a similar "tree bark" type of appearance. The feet are covered in Art Deco as well. This is a great looking piece. The top section or platform is irregular in shape. I think that I would cut a piece of marble or granite to finish this out.
