ART DECO STERLING SILVER Compact w/Hand-Painted Peacock

This is an ART DECO six-sided STERLING SILVER powder compact, definitely dating back to the early to mid-1930s. The compact features an applied oval-shaped sterling silver inset on the front lid with a hand-painted image of a peacock (see photos below). (Peacock images were very much a symbol of the ART DECO period in America and France, and were used on many items manufactured in this time period). The compact measures just over 1⅞" by 1⅞", and overall condition is very good to excellent . Inside the compact, you see an OK to good framed magnifying mirror on the inside of the lid, totally useable with only a few dark spots from age. The body of the compact contains a powder compartment or well which is actually a flat silver turnstile. This turnstile dispenses or hides loose face powder. Currently there is no powder in the compact, as I emptied it out. You can turn the turnstile to get some holes in the metal (see photos below); with these small holes, you can get as much or as little powder as you wish. Or, you can keep turning to get a closed well - or - a large open hole for loading the powder. The compact is signed on the inside: STERLING , then some characters that I don't recognize, then the number 1026 (see fifth photo below). If you recognize these marks, could you let me know & I will make the addition to the listing. As mentioned above, the compact is in very good to excellent condition - which is remarkable for such an old silver hinged case. There are some small scratches on the silver, but I'm sure they could be polished out, if you are so inclined. Photographed Outdoors Photographed Indoors Back of Compact Our Shipping Policy ... However, if you prefer, I can send this via International Priority Mail or Global Express Mail (your package will get to you faster, but will cost much more!).
