Art Deco sterling silver cigarette case with yellow gold ornate chased floral and scroll design. Measures 5-1/8" x 3". Company hallmarked "Army & Navy Erie Basin M.P. Inc. Illinois Watch Case Co. April 1- 1944" on the back. Single spring bar inside marked "Sterling Elgin American- Made In U.S.A.". Inside has beautiful swirled butler finish. In excellent condition, still has the original lacquer finish, just starting to show signs of age tarnishing around the edges. Snaps shut nice and tight. Weighs a sturdy 5 ounces. About The Maker: Elgin- American Manufacturing Company- Elgin, IL. Began business in 1887. Registered with U.S. Trade Mark Patent office in 1915 for the manufacture of silver products. The last record of production found was in 1952, in observance of their 65th anniversary.
