This is an Original and Authentic Automatic Electric Model 40 Telephone! This is a stunning example of the Art Deco Era. The Automatic Electric Company was from Chicago, Illinois. This phone was in production from 1938 to 1956. The AE40 has beautiful elegant lines. Its subtle sophistication is a reminder of the 1940s. It has a pristine porcelain Z-operator, TYPE 24 dial...Which is the AE equivalent to the highly desired Western Electric 4-H dial. This TYPE 24 "click-clicks" on the upswing and swishes on the return.... It's very cool! This dial was so gently used you can still see and feel the embossment of the letters. It also has the highly desired "grab bar" that isn't always available on this model. The plungers are chrome, not plastic. I replaced the badly worn coiled handset cord with an authentic Automatic Electric NOS (new old stock) cord. I added a modular adapter plug to the authentic 1940s black rubber line cord so as not to alter the phone's original history. Note the 4 prong plug on the end. This little piece of history has survived more than 60 years, so I like to keep as much intact to the original as I can. T's something to be said about preserving history. A Classic Beauty!.... but it did take hours of hand buffing! The ringer has a charming brass bell sound. The rubber gasket is soft and supple with no cracks. read more
