The locket. The expression of love ... in a tiny detailed heart ...that once held two fotos ... most cherished and set within the windows to face each other. The "door" was shut and undisturbed were the contents within. This is how she thought of it as she proudly sat in Gustav Kadansky's studio in Vienna nearly a century ago. The somber expression upon her face reflected the contents, though. The locket. Not an ordinary one you would find behind a counter with 20 more alike. No, this one was one created for her of the finest silver of the period and chase worked patterns of brilliant intricately engravings atop; the backside of solid ... with arched detail which gently curved about the edges of the 3/4" by 7/8" the heart. When she did open it, she carefully slipped her thin fingernail throught the inset ridged border and tugged the tiny lock. The old faded fotos were recessed within each chamber of the heart's windows and t they remained. To this day t is a trace of a foggy image impressed from the imulsion upon the inside of the chambers ... which in no way detracts from the subtle beauty of the locket ... an expression of love which one dear person deemed sentimentally significant in that day. Passed on to another day and another place....the locket has remained in impeccable condition. It was hand-tooled in Prague, of the First Czech Republic in 1918 and is 1/4" in depth, 3/4" across and 7/8" in length. Hinge and lock in perfect order and hallmarks include the rabbit's head turned left with the number "3" signifying it was created in the Czech lands of Bohemia at this period and has a silver content of 900. Other hallmarks are beneath the lock, on bail and on loop of bail ... the loop hallmark is especially significant because it is one of a nobel's coat of arms. An exquisite piece from the past with a history that is certain to continue. Enjoy! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Seller charges a flat fee of $4.00 for airmail, certified and insured postage and handling to all points.
