The Leglas family was reknowed for their exquisite quality of woodworking. Its pedigree stretches back to the workshop, the atelier, of the famed craftsmen of Leglas-Maurice. Beginning in the earlier part of the 19th century, they began working out of a shop in the town of Nantes, later to open a store in Paris. These craftsmen were known throughout France and beyond, the recipients of both popular acclaim, as well as medals at expositions and World Fairs throughout Europe and Great Britain. The Leglas house was revered by its contemporaries in the decorative arts: Rene Lalique, Jeniot, Guimar, Christofle, Galle, Daum, Plissot, Perzel, Adnet, Brandt, Ingrand, Colonna, Dufrene, Joubert et Petit, Mallet Stevens, and Leleu.
