Art Nouveau bronze sculpture of a female gilt bronze nude riding on the waves. Around her at the back of the bottom of the sculpture through the waves is a sculptured front of a ship. A bird is flying just above the waves at the top of the back of this sculpture. The front of the base has an anchor at the bottom. A rope from the anchor carved along the side of the sculpture dissolves into the waves. Signed and dated inscribed in the bronze reads Jules Meliodon 1890. The base is very well designed and crafted . It is three stepped black and gold marble. The sculpture is in excellent original condition. Jules Andre Meliodon was born in Paris 1867. He was a member of the Society of French Artists and a member of the French Professors in America. He obtained an Honorable Mention at the Paris Salon Exhibition in 1902. His sculptures are in French Museums including the Louvre and The Natural History Museum of Paris. Height 12 inches. Diameter at base 4-1/8 inches. Superb quality and design are seen in captivating the animation of the nymph riding effortlessly above the waves. This beautiful sculpture is an important Art Nouveau Objet d'Art worthy of the finest collection.
