A very beautiful French Art Nouveau 'gold finished' brooch made by the one of the best designers of medal jewels Emile Dropsy. Typical Art Nouveau curving lines with great detail. Items of jewellery made by Dropsy were sold by a top Parisian company A.Savard who especially promoted this design of a maiden's head with irises. The foliate design is extended on the reverse of the brooch. Usually these brooches are simple circles but this example has additional flowers added to each side making it more unusual and larger. They are original to the brooch and not later additions. All of the brooch is in super condition with no damage or repairs only minimal wear commensurate with age. The brooch is signed on the front E. Dropsy - slightly obscured by the flowers. The 'c' catch is stamped with the Savard trademark. Marked on the back 'FIX' which was technique used by the French that tested as 18ct gold. This gives a finished appearance of a gold piece of jewellery. The brooch however is light and not heavy as it would be if solid gold. It measures 2.8 cms / 1.1 ins across and 1.8 cms / 0.7 ins down the centre. Please note this is a n original item and not a reproduction or copy. This wonderful brooch will be supplied in a free gift box and would make a great original antique present.
