The garnet gemstone, known as the "Mother Gem of Bohemia" is becoming a more and more rare a find since so many "garnets" of today are but simple facsimiles and found not in the Bohemian Czech lands but in places as far away as Madagascar. Because the gem was mined for centuries in this country to the point of near extinction, the rare original ones are usually found in the very dated jewelry of at least 100 years ago . The earrings presented in were created at the height of the Art Nouveau period, are of 100% old world cut Czech garnets and intricately set within 925 silver. The patina finish has remained and a slight gold hue abounds upon the silver setting detail. Earrings measure 1" in length , from top of dangling set gem to bottom of the arched two tiered level main setting. Main setting measures a tad over 5/8" in diameter. Each earring is composed of 20 exquisite cut gems and each solidly set within soft prong settings with open backs which allow the ultimate in light refraction of the fine facet cuts. 12 gems encircle another 6, which raise upward to the main centered gem. This arched area is approximately 1/4" in depth ... brilliantly, skillfully and delicately arranged.
