Description This auction is for a very nice and quite unusual Art Nouveau-era French majolica figural candlestick in the form of a little French girl! This nice piece was an estate purchase in Maryland,w the prior owner's family were from France and they accumulated alot of older French made items that were passed down to them through their family. They were also older people and were downsizing themselves.Although the bidding was vigorous for these goods,I was able to purchase few lots from this fine estate. The artist has decorated this fine colorful majolica finished piece into a form what looks to be a little ???French??? girl leaning against an organic growth of sorts,(see pics). The piece that she is leaning on is actually graduates to a socket mount for a candle.(see pics).I love things that have a strong Art Nouveau influence..."it was my favorite time period"...this figural definately has that influence! This "dainty" candlestick stands measures 6 5/8" tall with a base dimension of 2 3/4" x 3 1/8".Perfect as a cabinet or shelf decorative! It is signed on the bottom with random stamped numbers, and random scribble, but the part that intrigues me is the little aged sticker on the bottom that states "from Dad Wilson...very old and very good"! ,(see photo 11).This unusual piece of majolica is in good condition with minor glaze pops read more
