VERY RARE Art Nouveau gold plated plaquette,1913 : Opening of the Palace of Peace in Den Haag (starting price: USD $79.99 NO RESERVE) Obv/ Two Ladies standing face to face are holding a large crown made of leaves making a cartouche with the following inscription : " ALG(emene).NED(erlandse).BOND - VREEDE DOOR RECHT" (Dutch Alliance for Peace through Justice and Right). At the bottom : a view of the Palace of Peace Rev/ &quotA L’OCCASION DE L’INAUGURATION DU PALAIS DE LA PAIX – LA HAGUE 28 AOUT 1913" (for the Opening of the Palace of Peace in The Hague on August 28th , 1913) Information and bibliography: This very lovely and very rare gilt bronze plaquette is unsigned. It was especially engraved to commemorate the opening of the &quotPalace of Peace" in The Hague (Den Haag) in 1913. A bit more about this rare and historic plaquette: in the very early 20th C. Netherland was involved a lot about actions to preserve Peace. Under the auspices of Queen Wilhelmina, many diplomats (the Russian Friedrich Martens; the American Andrew White) with the help of Mr. Carnegie were able to build the &quotPalace of Peace" in The Hague (Den Haag) in 1913.
