A rare silver version of the Art Nouveau medal "Orphee" by Lucien Coudray, dating from the late nineteenth century.Titled "Orphée endort Cerbère aux sons de sa lyre " the medal is extremely well-modelled, and won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1893 . A fine example of the work of the Parisian engraver and medallist Marie-Alexandre-Lucien Coudray (1864-1932). Complete in its original box - red leather, with a dark pink silk and velvet interior. The medal has ARGENT stamped on the rim along with the Monnaie de Paris cornucopia mint mark (see photo). The medal measures 68mm (2.7") in diameter, and has an approximate weight of 163g. A suspension loop is attached, so it can be worn as a pendant. Both medal and box are in very good condition, with a few marks from age and use. See images for detail, scale and condition. Thanks for taking a look, good luck if you decide to bid.
