Art Nouveau Cased Solid Silver & Ebony Conductor's Baton . London 1919-20 . This is a 2-piece conductor's baton made from ebony and with solid silver decoration. The silver repousse decoration at the hand end and at the other end of that section are in the Late Art Nouveau style with floral sprays. The hand end culminates in an 8-sided silver top with a domed knop integral with the The two sections screw together giving an overall length of 44.6 cm (17.6 inches). The baton tapers from hand to the silver mounted tip. The lower end of the top section has three of the eight sides blank so a presentation name could be added. The baton comes with its original plush lined and silk lined hinged lid. The box has two compartments tapered in line with the two sections of the baton. The wooden box is covered in black gold lined leather. All three silver mount sections are hallmarked dating this to 1919-20. Comes from a local house, fresh to the market place with low start and no reserve! Please have a look at all of the photographs . Please note that we shall be posting only on Thursdays and Fridays. Dimensions : Baton : Length (Joined together) - 44.6 cm. (17.6 "). Case : 25.6 x 4.2 x 2.6 cm. (10.1 x 1.65 x 1.05 inch.). Weight : Baton - 60 grammes. Case + Baton - 120 grammes. Marks : The two repousse mounts and the plain tip mount are each hallmarked with the Lion Passant, the Leopard's Head of London and the date letter ' d ' for the year 1919-20 . There is a silversmith's mark alongside the tip hallmarking which looks like ' NE ' - it is rather worn. Condition : Very Good - no damage or repair to the baton.The case and interior have signs of wear but the hinges are good and the closing clasp fits well.
