ArtNouveau - Rare Silver Plated Bronze Medal by Oscar Roty 1896: Rouen National and Colonial Exposition This rare commemorativemedal was designed by Louis-Oscar Roty, recognized as one of the most celebrated French medallists of the Art Nouveau period. This medal is a silver-plated Bronze Art Nouveau medal commemorating the 1896 France National and Colonial Exposition in Rouen. Obverse: Features a distant scene of the city with the resting figure of Normania sitting against a tree, knitting. In the background there is a farming scene with buildings, ploughing and cattle. Reverse: There is a panoramic view of Rouen and the date 1896 in Roman numerals. Condition report: It is a richly toned, original medal in very good condition with tiny areas of high point wear. The medal was struck by the Monnaie de Paris and is edge marked ‘Bronze’ with the Cornucopia mint mark. It measures 68 mm in diameter, 4 mms thick and weighs 138 grams. It comes in its original presentation box which is in excellent condition. The depth of definition is excellent and the Roty signature is clear.
