i000000 3 Art & Progress, American Magazine of Art 1916-17 Description 3 Art & Progress, American Magazine of Art 1916-17 Prestigious journal Arts & Crafts era, named artists. Offered in this auction are three issues of The American Magazine of Art, Volume 8, renamed from Art and Progress in the Vol. 7, No. 3 issue. This lot includes three excellent issues; one with an applied sample of artwork pasted to the front cover. These magazines are in excellent condition, but for some tears and bends on the tan covers – the contents are in near mint condition. These magazines provide a glimpse into the ‘new’ ways of thinking about art – art as textile, metallurgy, jewelry, pottery, oils, watercolors, glass and the upcoming artists in those mediums. They are fascinating to read, even more so as many of those that influenced the period were on the Board of Directors (Maxfield Parrish is on the Board in later issues offered in another auction). These are a great resource for collectors of all kinds of art, including sculpture, bronzes, and porcelains. Apparently, no art form is considered sacrosanct to the magazine’s editor. Included in this auction are: The American Magazine of Art, “Art and Progress,” Vol. 8, No. 1, November 1916 Cover Picture, “The Ford,” by Gaston La Touche, now lent to National Gallery , Washington , D.C.
