You are bidding on a Genuine Vintage/Antique Collectible SZYK HAGGADAH for PASSOVER hard bound in a Silver Metal Tin Cover circa 1960s which contains 46 full-colored pictures by Arthur Szyk with Hebrew and English text. The book is titled THE HAGGADAH executed by ARTHUR SZYK and edited by CECIL ROTH. It is published by “MASSADAH” and “ALUMOTH” in Jerusalem, Ramat-Gan and Tel-Aviv. It is listed as printed and produced in Israel. This edition features double pages, meaning that each page is made up of two pieces of thick paper. It can be opened from the right side or from the left to be read, and is written in both Hebrew and English. The pages on the right-hand side are in Hebrew text, while the ones on the left are in English text (of course with the great color art of Arthur Szyk.) It is made up 48 pages which includes 2 blank pages, and its dimensions are approximately 9”x7”x1”. The book is used of course, and is in good condition except when you open it up, the inner hinge has come unglued from the spine. That does not mean the book is falling apart; the spine just needs to be re-attached. (See photos) The rest of the book is intact and the pages are all bound together. I can’t tell what year the books is from, but I believe it came from the 1960s, possibly 1965. The Szyk Haggadah is a Passover Haggadah that was illustrated by the Polish-Jewish artist Arthur Szyk, who made his original artwork in Poland between 1934 and 1936. Szyk's visual commentary on the ancient story of Passover uses the vocabulary and format of an illuminated manuscript; each of his full-page watercolor and gouache illuminations contains the traditional text of the Haggadah (in Hebrew calligraphy), which is clarified and interpreted by the images and symbols on the same page.
