Antique Arts and Crafts Mission Footstool Foot Stool Stickley
Beautiful Antique Mission footstool with original covering and padding. Wood in excellent not worn at all condition; Construction is blind mortise and tenon joinery and not nailed anyw That is the difference between furniture that will last forever and those pieces that only last a few years. Seat is completely original to the piece with original hardware attaching it firmly to the stool. Seat unscrews if you want to cover it with new leather or brown vinyl. Seat is the original covering a green leather like covering with all of the original tacks underneath that have never been disturbed. The antique covering has old worn corners, but, No slits, tares, and no holes in the covering. Plenty of use left in this old footstool. Foot stool is firm and solid - not loose or broken anyw Solid thick quartersawn oak or similar very hard heartwood that looks exactly like oak - I cannot tell/ It looks like high quality white oak possibly it is not porous. Quartersawn wood will last a lifetime and will not crack as it binds the wood fibers together. Legs have absolutely no cracking or splitting. The wood in the piece is absolutely not a soft wood or pine (see close-up picture for wood type). I have never found a piece like this it is very old and quality made - heavy duty. Piece has an unusual upright designed like a stand stepstool design - maybe to use to reach books high on a bookcase. It is a little taller than a footrest. All original with no damaged and no replaced or repaired parts. The finish has been restored or replaced, but, very nice. No refinishing needed. It is ready for use. Underneath the seat t is a light colored spot w the original label has gone missing just inside the top rail. I have no way of knowing what furniture company the missing label was for it may have been Gustav Stickley, Quaint Furniture , Young , or other ( missing label spot is pictured this is also w the only slight age shrinkage crack in the wood is pictured). Then under the seat t are furniture markings " 33 / 22 ". Gorgeous ancient piece! The opening bid is starting low for fairness. Ready for display and the wood has a smooth dark patina from years and years of gentle use. Completely sound and solid. Sits perfectly flat - not wobbly. This piece was purchased from an estate sale at a Kansas City Estate mansion. The furniture had been sitting untouched for many years. I, also, purchased a slatted craftsman rocking chair from the estate sale that won't be for sale - seen in pictures. Piece does not have usage marks or dents scrapes or scratches. Not worn out. Legs are not even chipped or worn at the feet. Very nice! Measures 17 inches tall with cushion and 10 1 / 4 inches wide. No damages whatsoever, No water damage or stains ever, Has never been wet, No dry rot, and no soft wood. No gouges, No cracks other than one tiny natural line as found in all old oak from old age near the edge of one side rail - does not show and nothing bad, Not worn out, No chips, No scratches, No dings, No gouges, No damages whatsoever, gently worn smooth patina over time. Not a reproduction piece and has not ever been lacquered, No repairs. You will really appreciate the unique craftsmanship of this beautiful one of a kind woodenware piece of American history - still very rich and well preserved. Heirloom keepsake condition. Amazing condition - very neat! I have never found one like this.(see pictures; very nice!). You will be able to tell right away just how very antiquated this is. Just a lovely unique piece! Would also look great with Mission Stickley, Limbert Era, southwestern or arts and crafts movement décor. Please ask any questions before bidding as item is not returnable and is sold as is.
