Up for auction is a great looking and well painted antique, old Arts and Crafts to maybe Art Nouveau fell unframed oil painting on canvas by American painter M. J. Clancy. This painting measures 26 inches high by 32 inches across. The painting is signed by the artist both on the front of the painting in the lower left corner and again on the back. The painting dates anyw from as early as 1900 to maybe as late as the late 1920s. We had another work by this artist that was dated 1922. The painting is going to require some restoration. First of all it will need a cleaning. The painting had been in storage , uncovered, for many years and had quite a bit of dust and age discoloration of the paint. T were pieces of art resting against the canvas and as a result t is a 2 inches by 1 inch "L" shaped tear in the canvas in the upper left caused by the stretcher bar pressing in from the back. T are two small dimples in the painting in the center which are very shallow and measure about 1 1/2 inches in diameter each. T is some faint scattered paint crackle but no flaking or paint chipping in those areas. T is a 3/8 of an inch diameter paint chip missing in the lower left center and a small paint abrasion just to the left of the tree and some minor wear on the extreme edge from w the frame rubbed against the paint over the years.
