Arts Crafts Mission Qsawn Oak Rolltop Tambour Desk 1890 Our latest container has just arrived from the UK, but I had this item already in the US. We have more extraordinary things that we'll be listing in the coming days and weeks, from the 17th century through the Georgian and Victorian periods to the Gothic Revival, Aesthetic, Arts & Crafts, Art Nouveau, Art Deco Movements and later. Be SURE to check out our other auctions!!! This is a beautiful antique, An Original and Genuine Antique English Victorian Arts and Crafts Mission Panelled, Twin Pedestal, Locking Rolltop Tambour Desk, in Solid Quartersawn Oak, of the Highest Quality, Dating to c.1900..! It is a magnificent piece of furniture, see 6 pics above and 20 below. Please note that the desk is all one color, and any impression to the contrary one gets from the pics is due to changing light whilst I was photographing it. It features a tambour roll-top, complete with its original working lock and double-blade key, that tambour sliding upwards and backwards to reveal six stationery cubby- or pigeon-holes to the right, behind a stationery-holder, with a fitted drawer to the left. The rolltop slides smoothly and easily and, when the rolltop is locked, all the drawers in both pedestals, and the central lap-drawer, are locked too. When the tambour is unlocked and slid backwards, it operates a mechanism that unlocks the drawers. The left-hand pedestal comprises a pull-out writing-slide above four hand-dovetailed drawers to the left of the central lap-drawer, whilst the right-hand pedestal comprises another pull-out writing-slide above two further drawers over a double-depth file drawer. The back, the modesty screen and the ends are beautifully panelled, and the fullydovetailed drawers are complete with their original wooden handles. The desk breaks down into four main pieces for transportation, i.e left-hand pedestal, right-hand pedestal, top section and rear modesty panel. Sixteen screws, which will be supplied with the desk, need to be inserted into pre-threaded holes to secure the top, the modesty panel and the spacer-rail between the pedestal fronts, and all that is needed is a slotted (flat-head) screwdriver. I will supply a diagram showing which screws go w When fitted together, this phenomenal desk measures 54" long by 36" deep by 39" high to the top of the back, and weighs in the region of 140lbs. Having said that it is heavy, it is on its original castors, and one person can easily move it. It is of the highest possible quality, and is in its original shellac finish. It has the normal marks and imperfections one needs to expect of a century-old piece of furniture. T has been a repair to one side of the lap-drawer, and that drawer also has a hole in the bottom but, astonishingly, those are its only real flaws, and it remains a superb piece, quite unlike anything made nowadays. You will appreciate that we cannot ship this ourselves, though we are happy to supply a shipping quote from a company known to us. All I will need to be able to do that is your state and zipcode, but the actual shipping arrangements, and payment for shipping, will be the responsibility of the buyer. Of course, BUYERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME TO COLLECT AT NO COST and we are happy to store this for free until the buyer wishes to collect.
