Hard-to-find Aesthetic Movement calling card case with a parrot motif. The hand-chased parrot is perched on a delicate leafy branch set against a diagonal basket weave pattern. A diamond pattern border surrounds the scene which is the same on both sides of the hinged case. A fine chain is attached for ease of carrying. During the 1880's and 1890's such cases were a required accessory for any lady with a pretense of being fashionable. Delivery of calling cards on a daily basis was a necessary activity for Victorian ladies of leisure....yes, those ladies who lunch....and t was an entire protocol ritual for how the cards were to be delivered in order to send signals to the recipient. This card case is unmarked and the manufacturer is unknown, but it was probably American made. The antique calling cards will be included in the sale. Dimensions are as follows: 3-3/4" X 2-3/8" X 1/4" Thick. Attached Chain Length is Approx. 10". PLEASE NOTE: I have made every effort to describe this item accurately and honestly.
